SCHOENBERG: Verklärte Nacht, op. 4

BERG: Chamber Concerto for Piano, Violin, and 13 Wind Instruments

German violinist Veronika Eberle was introduced by Sir Simon Rattle to a packed Salzburg Festival house when she was only sixteen. That performance of the Beethoven Concerto catapulted her onto the international stage. Since then, she’s been lauded by the South China Post for her “warm, glowing sound, clean octaves and perfectly secure shifts up and down the fingerboard” and by The Guardian for her “exceptionally delicate dynamics.”

A dedicated chamber musician, she will be featured in two twentieth-century masterworks. Schoenberg composed his early string sextet Verklärte Nacht when he was first falling in love with his teacher Zemlinsky’s sister Mathilde, who would later become his wife. Written shortly after his opera Wozzeck, Berg’s Chamber Concerto was dedicated to Schoenberg, and in Berg’s words, “conceals within these three movements … friendship, love, and a world of human-spiritual relationships.”
